Durante la época altoimperial romana se desarrolló una próspera producción de vino en el sur de la provincia Tarraconense. Fueron vinos que se envasaron en ánforas para ser comercializados por el Mediterráneo central y occidental.
Recientes descubrimientos nos muestran nuevas áreas productivas y curiosas variedades de vinos. Más allá de los conocidas producciones saguntinas o dianenses, cada vez encontramos producciones más meridionales, al menos hasta la actual comarca de la Marina Baixa.
Las nuevas investigaciones nos acercan a un paisaje productivo muy variado dominado por las explotaciones de pequeño y mediano tamaño. Desde las ciudades las oligarquías comerciales organizarían el envasado y distribución hasta los puertos exportadores desde los que, grandes naves comerciales, transportarían estos vinos a los principales mercados occidentales.

During the High Imperial Roman period, a prosperous wine production developed in the south of the province of Tarraconensis. These wines were bottled in amphorae to be marketed throughout the central and western Mediterranean.
Recent discoveries show us new production areas and curious varieties of wine. Beyond the well-known Saguntine and Dianese productions, we are finding more and more southern productions, at least as far as the current Marina Baixa region.
New research brings us closer to a very varied production landscape dominated by small and medium-sized farms. From the cities, the commercial oligarchies would organise the bottling and distribution to the exporting ports from which large commercial ships would transport these wines to the main western markets.
