Wine is one of the most commonly enjoyed alcoholic beverages in the modern world. But what is the antiquity and history of this otherworldly drink? When and how was it first developed? How did it spread from its point of origin?
New archaeological fieldwork at the Neolithic site of Gadachrili Gora, along with bio-molecular chemistry and genetics are helping unlock this story, pushing its origins back to the Neolithic period and to the region of Caucasia, modern Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Moreover, archaeology potentially can show us how one of our earliest and best-documented examples of an ancient migration probably led to the spread of wine and wine culture across the Ancient Near East, and eventually across the rest of the Mediterranean World.

El vino es una de las bebidas alcohólicas más consumidas en el mundo moderno. Pero, ¿cuál es la antigüedad y la historia de esta bebida de otro mundo? ¿Cuándo y cómo se desarrolló por primera vez? ¿Cómo se extendió desde su punto de origen?
Nuevos trabajos arqueológicos en el yacimiento neolítico de Gadachrili Gora, junto con la química biomolecular y la genética, están ayudando a desentrañar esta historia, remontando sus orígenes al Neolítico y a la región de Caucasia, la actual Georgia, Armenia y Azerbaiyán.
Además, la arqueología puede mostrarnos cómo uno de los ejemplos más antiguos y mejor documentados de una antigua migración condujo probablemente a la difusión del vino y la cultura del vino por el Próximo Oriente y, finalmente, por el resto del mundo mediterráneo.
